School Program

For over 15 years, the Noosa Heads Surf Life Saving Club has provided community education programs to local and regional schools, with over 35 schools participating from all over South East Queensland. As a Surf Life Saving Club, we believe it is our responsibility to not only indicate safe swimming areas, but to increase the skills and confidence of its members and the public.

Living in a coastal environment and likely to be in and around water most of their lives, it is essential that students learn the basic water safety and survival techniques within their beaches and waterways. The goal of the school education programme is to provide children with the skills and resources they need to engage in aquatic activities with confidence and to increase their understanding of water safety.

There is no better place to learn than one of the most iconic beaches in Australia! with this in mind, we have a developed several School Programs.

Program Overview

The Surf Education program provides students the opportunity to gain confidence in the water through various aquatic activities. Students will take part in a variety of activities every week that are intended to promote an enjoyable and safe beach experience. These exercises combine fundamental Surf Lifesaving techniques that will keep children safe while also preparing them to recognise risks while on the beach.

Activities include but are not limited to: Swimming, board skills, swim and run relay races, self-rescue techniques, patient board and tube rescues. If you have something specific in mind let us know and we can incorporate it.

Primary School Program

1 hour – Our 8 week program, which is generally run over a term, is the perfect fit for your students to participate in two activities each week to maximise individual skills

2 hour – Our 4 week program is a more intense program as students have the opportunity to rotate through 4 activities each week.

High School Program

1 or 2 hour sessions – as the students are older the program focuses more on developing the students lifesaving skills. Each week the students participate in surf rescue and bronze medallion style training. This includes conscious and unconscious patient rescue on boards and rescue tubes, patient assessment and DRSABCD – CPR, developing their skills in the surf with the equipment. Towards the end of the program students are asked to participate in a range of rescue scenarios and triage situation, further developing their surf skill awareness.

At the conclusion of the school term, the students have the choice to return to the club during the holidays to complete the full SRC or BM accreditation.
